Job Title: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER (PART-TIME, 0.5 FTE)
Reports To: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
General Job Description:
To improve the school performance of students identified as having emotional, social or behavioral through evaluation, and provide therapeutic interventions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate skills needed to facilitate the screening process.
- Demonstrate appropriate skills in working with parents and families
- Demonstrate a broad base of knowledge and training to enable him/her to effectively perform job responsibilities.
- Demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Assist in the collection of evaluation data (i.e. observation, interview, informed assessment) to assist the multidisciplinary team in identifying individual needs and appropriate services.
- Provide direct or indirect service to identified special education students as recommended by the Individual Educational Plans (IEP). Services to be provided may include the following:
- Assist in the development of behavioral management plans.
- Individual and/or group interventions.
- Evaluate and document the progress of students assigned to caseload, noting steps toward achievement of specific goals and objectives that were established in the Individual Education Plan.
- Serve as a consultant to the building level Student Assistance Teams (SAT) as needed.
- Participate in in-service training programs.
- Assess students for safety, including threatening behavior and suicidal ideation.
- Medicaid notes are to be submitted 10 business days from the completion of service.
- Provide individual and group crisis intervention services; information on social, emotional, and behavioral issues; provide student support and encouragement.
- Promote student success through support of parents and families as needed.
- Consult and collaborate with building administrators, and school based professionals to interpret student social/emotional needs, assist with behavioral management, serve as resource for school staff, including involvement in staff meetings, workshops, presenting in-service programs, etc.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with community service providers, use community services to assess and provide for the needs of students and families.
- Maintain professional skills through consultation, in-service activities; and awareness of cultural diversity; and maintain confidentiality.
- Provide crisis intervention services when necessary.
- Serve as an advocate for the students assigned to caseload and those included in the special education program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Current license with the New Mexico State Education Department Social Worker license.
- Must hold a current Social Worker Board of Examiners license which has to be renewed as required by state regulations.
- Must hold a Valid Driver’s license and Car Insurance and travel from site to site.
Ability To:
- Maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.
- Be flexible and able to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate and detailed records.
- Work independently with very little supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

Equipment/Material Handled:
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Occasional after hour work may be required. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
