Job Title:  Security Officer (Cochiti Schools)

 

Reports To:  Security Officer Supervisor

 

General Job Description:

Ensure the security and safety of student body, faculty and staff as an armed security guard.  Protect district resources. Patrol campus and maintain security of buildings and grounds as required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a safe secure environment for students, staff and guests on campus.
  2. Knowledge of Search and Seizure Law
  3. Knowledge and understanding of Use of Force case law and how it applies in the school setting.
  4. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community members.
  5. Help to create and maintain a working relationship with the local police and fire and rescue departments.
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of action plans to provide safe environment and immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, auto accidents and others.
  7. Regulate student behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, parking lots and other open areas.
  8. Assist with controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance.  Request assistance from school administration and/or police when necessary.
  9. Detain students suspected of narcotics, tobacco, or alcoholic infractions, as authorized.
  10. Investigate, review, and report to school administration and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as appropriate, on accidents, incidents and violations of law.
  11. Patrol and confront unauthorized persons for questioning and checking for passes and identification cards as needed.
  12. Assist law enforcement officers as directed by school administration.
  13. Direct traffic and parking on campus; check vehicles for proper parking authorization; determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas.
  14. Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
  15. Maintain proper paperwork/reports to ensure all complaints filed with law enforcement have been signed off by the principal or their designated representative.
  16. Supervise and patrol assigned school activities.
  17. Upon completion of all required criteria, ensure the safety and security of student body as an armed security guard.
  18. Observe and report violations of safety and health codes.
  19. Demonstrate problem solving and responsible decision making skills.
  20. Maintain and project professional appearance as it relates to job performance.
  21. Patrol after school events as needed.
  22. Monitor security surveillance equipment to protect facilities and assets.
  23. Maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.
  24. Be flexible and able to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate and detailed records.
  25. Report to work on time.
  26. Work independently with very little supervision.
  27. Attempt to deescalate students/parents/staff; listening/visiting with them about their concerns prior to them meeting with administrators.
  28. Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.

Qualifications:

  1. Current New Mexico driver’s license
  2. High School Diploma or GED
  3. Work experience in an educational and/or security setting preferred
  4. 5 years’ experience in law enforcement
  5. Have no Disciplinary records that resulted in suspension, removal from property
  6. Current or formerly certified and commissioned law enforcement officer

 

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  1. American Red Cross CPR Instructor State certified firearms instructor
  1. State certified defensive tactics instructor
  2. State certified security guard instructor
  1. Experience in Crisis Intervention
  2. Experience in the education setting
  3. Effective verbal communications techniques
  4. Knowledge of State and Federal Security Guidelines
  5. Participate in NVCPI training and recertification
  6. Collect and analyze information and to make independent judgments

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, reaching, squatting, kneeling, having full mobility of fingers/hands, and walking several hours per day in hallways and outside, unless ADA accommodations have been mutually agreed on and does not create an undue hardship upon the district.

 

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.  After hours work may be required.  May work under stressful conditions on occasions.

 

Terms of Employment:

191 Day Contract. 8 Hours per Day.
