TITLE: Site Youth Coach


REPORTS TO: Site Coach

 

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Non-Exempt


WAGE: $15 per hour - UP TO 18 Hours Per Week


LOCATION: Bernalillo Public Schools Elementary Sites (Algodones and Cochiti)

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Site Youth Coach (SYC) is a part-time role responsible for:

  • Assisting in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, services, and activities.
  • Contributing to a safe and healthy environment by maintaining facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitoring members within the aftercare facilities to ensure their overall safety.
  • Supporting programs, activities, and services designed to prepare students for success.
  • Helping create a safe & fun environment that fosters the achievement of desirable Student development outcomes.
  • Performing duties at the primary club site and traveling to different sites as needed, including short-term or permanent assignments. Flexibility to work at various sites is expected.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

  1. Contribute to essential programs, activities, and services that prepare students for success through organizational awareness and innovative thinking.
  2. Foster positive youth development through relationship building, providing recognition, and coaching by example. Offer feedback, listen, and promote organizational wellness.
  3. Supervise and implement quality programs for Students, ensuring a safe environment and effective organization.
  4. Monitor programs, services, and activities to ensure member safety, program quality, and positive appearance of the Club/Extension Site.
  5. Act as a mentor and life-skills teacher to all members.

Technology
6. Update and maintain Aftercare  and School equipment as needed.

 

Strategic Planning
7. Contribute to the implementation and administration of programs, services, and activities for both drop-in members and specific program attendees.
8. Create an environment that supports the achievement of Student Development Outcomes.
9. Communicate an understanding of the Bernalillo Public Schools culture and Values.

 

Resource Management
10. Ensure facilities, equipment, and supplies are properly maintained.
11. Act to ensure safety and environmental policies and regulatory requirements are met.
12. Implement and evaluate programs, services, and activities effectively.
13. Demonstrate commitment to excellence by setting a high standard and encouraging others to do their best.
14. Assess personal strengths and development needs, taking action to improve capacity and better serve our family’s needs.
15. Understand and apply principles of group dynamics.

Partnership Development
16. Collaborate with others to achieve team objectives.

Marketing and Public Relations
17. Develop positive relationships with supervisors, students, parents, and families.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advisory

  1. Assist with special events and carry out programs in various departments.
  2. Advise the Site Coach on needed supplies and equipment.
  3. Participate in special Aftercare programs and events, and represent the Aftercare in community activities.
  4. Exercise leadership in resolving issues related to members and utilize the guidance and discipline plan.

Duties
5. Perform all other duties as necessary to fulfill the purpose of the District.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with AfterCare professional staff to explain organizational mission, program objectives, and standards, and to discuss issues and provide/receive information. Regularly interact with members to offer advice, training, and counseling.
External: Maintain contact with community groups, schools, parents, and others to resolve problems and publicize the Aftercare Program.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Education: High School diploma/GED required.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with children preferred, including mentoring, tutoring, coaching, or teaching.
  • Communication Skills: Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to relate to the public and individuals within the Aftercare Program.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Strong judgment, systemic thinking, problem-solving, and time management abilities. Identify common themes and risks in situations.
  • Supervision Skills: Ability to provide direct supervision to members.
  • Planning Skills: Strong organizational planning, program implementation, and supervision skills to create a safe environment for youth.
  • Relationship Skills: Excellent customer service, confidentiality, relationship-building skills, and the ability to be a positive team player.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Physical Activity: Requires working, standing, bending, reaching, talking, and listening in a clean, well-lighted environment. Occasional outdoor work required.
  • Energy and Communication: Ability to maintain high energy, manage multiple projects, and effectively communicate with diverse audiences.

Safety and Health:

  • Child Abuse/Substance Abuse Workshop
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Standard Training

 

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.

 

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Occasional after hour work may be required. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
