Job Title: Special Education Educational Assistant -IEP

 

Reports To: Director of Special Education

 

General Job Description:

Provides clerical assistance to administrative staff and IEP teams on matters related to special education; maintains files, tracks timelines/due dates, coordinates and schedules meetings; serves as the collection and dissemination point for paperwork related to the IEP process.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist special education staff with IEP process documentation including parent notification and follow­ up to IEP meetings.
  • Input student information into the district's online IEP program in a timely
  • Track timelines for referrals, evaluations, annual reviews, and the submission of data to the Special Education
  • Coordinate with administrator(s), diagnostician(s), teacher(s), ancillary staff and parent(s) in scheduling IEP meeting
  • Follow-up with parents regarding
  • Make copies of IEPs and related documents for review and use by staff and Maintain special education files in an orderly manner.
  • Attend meetings and/or trainings related to IEP compliance and Assist in reviewing IEP documents for compliance purposes.
  • Think, concentrate, positively interact, and problem-solve with staff and Travel to various schools within the district where IEPs have been scheduled.
  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma.
  2. A valid New Mexico Educational Assistant license.
  3. Experience working with exceptional populations, preferred.
  4. Must be able to pass employment verification.

 

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and   moving light furniture may be required.

 

Safety and Health:

  • Child Abuse/Substance Abuse Workshop
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Standard Training

 

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.

 

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Occasional after hour work may be required. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
