Job Title:  HVAC Technician Lead

 

Reports To:  MAINTENANCE FOREMAN

 

General Job Description:

Under direct supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the HVAC Technician will diagnose, repair and install refrigerated cooling equipment and appliances and gas-fired heating equipment. Conduct boiler inspections and repairs as needed. Maintain control systems and optimize for energy conservation.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain functional HVAC systems on all assigned locations.
  2. Effectively complete all assigned work orders, including time worked and parts used.
  3. Troubleshoot and repair system components for cost-effective operation.
  4. Install new HVAC equipment.
  5. Perform routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems including any air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital control, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable air volume systems.
  6. Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments, and basic repairs on HVAC systems and control systems.
  7. Utilize ladders and lifts safely to complete work.
  8. Provide guidance and instruction to colleagues and student interns.
  9. Perform seasonal overhauls and transitions of systems to and from heating/cooling.
  10. Coordinate major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems.
  11. Inspect and provide recommendations for boiler maintenance, corrosion prevention, etc.
  12. Repair and maintain kitchen systems as assigned.
  13. Ensure proper care in the use of maintenance equipment and supplies; promote work place safety.
  14. Maintain an adequate inventory of heating, ventilation and air conditioning small repair inventory.
  15. Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls, motor control panels, and programmable logic controls.
  16. Work as part of a team to complete assigned team duties from foreman.
  1. Plan and execute work efficiently within the School Dude work order system
  2. Maintain and install rooftop heating and cooling units.
  3. Maintenance and retrofit of refrigeration compressors.
  4. Maintain kitchen equipment in good order and in compliance with the State Fire Marshal and Office of Environmental Health site inspections.
  5. Assist Maintenance Supervisor and Buildings & Construction Coordinator on proposals, purchasing and specification on HVAC equipment.
  6. Maintain all HVAC control equipment including thermostats, ignition systems, power delivery systems, pneumatic and valves.
  7. Perform all work within the regulations concerning CFC’s. Welding. Silver brazing for repair and installation of piping.
  1. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Must possess valid NM Journeyman Refrigeration (JR) licensure.
  3. Boiler Inspector preferred.
  4. Universal refrigerant certification.
  5. Minimum of three years successful commercial experience in the HVAC trade.
  6. Valid NM Driver’s License.
  7. Ability to pass drug test.

 

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs/ladders, reaching, squatting, kneeling, having full mobility, and moving furniture may be required, unless ADA accommodations have been mutually agreed on and does not create an undue hardship upon the district.

 

Safety and Health:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions (blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc.)

 

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.

 

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.  After hours work may be required.  May work under stressful conditions on occasion.
