Job Title:  MAINTENANCE WORKER, GENERAL 

 

Reports To:  MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR/FACILITIES DIRECTOR

 

General Job Description:

Assists skilled maintenance worker in making electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical and related repairs and installations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs general labor inside and outside the physical plant including district wide grounds keeping, handling materials, and supplies, moving equipment, operating power-driven equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, roofing, mowing, etc.
  • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines.
  • Assists in one specific skilled trade.
  • Assists as a helper in several trades.
  • Operates standard tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • Maintains athletic fields and facilities.
  • Operates light and medium motor equipment.
  • Operates motor vehicles as assigned.
  • Performs building, grounds, maintenance, custodial, and food service work as assigned.
  • Performs district wide grounds maintenance work such as plowing, salting field marking and maintenance of underground sprinkling systems.
  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.

  • Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school district.
  • Attend and participate in onsite and district meetings.
  • Complete duties as assigned.
  • Use and apply appropriate conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate public relations skills.
  • Use appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal.
  • Adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
  • Be available to parents, students, administration, and peers outside the school day, if needed.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Act as a good role model within the context of the school.
  • Develop and use appropriate community and professional resources.
  • Demonstrate concern for student's well-being and positive self-esteem.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma.
  2. Valid driver’s license.
  3. Ability to pass a background check.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms such as to operate vibrating machinery. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as a toolbox. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such as motors or jack hammers. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables scaffolds, and cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally

work outdoors.  The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.  The employee

may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area.
