  • Job Title:  STUDENT SUCCESS PROJECT DIRECTOR – SSP GRANT 

     

    Reports To:  SUPERVISOR

     

    General Job Description:

    The Project Director (PD) will initiate the Student Success Grant application and assume the responsibility for overall project management. PD will work directly and in collaboration with the BPS Indian Education Department, College Horizons and the Leadership Institute. PD will work with College Horizons to ensure that the curriculum and training provided will meet the needs of Pueblo communities such as cultural, linguistic, economic and core values. PD must be able to pay attention to detail, communicate with each of the Tribal communities, which include: Tribal Leadership, Tribal Education Director’s, Parents/Students, and the community.  

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Diligently pursues project aims, as described in the application.
    • Manages project personnel.
    • Completes progress and other required reports.
    • Initiates timely request for prior approval for changes when required (e.g. change in scope of work, re-budgeting, or reduction in committed effort).
    • Ensures integrity of project.
    • Manages project within budget limits.
    • Monitors project’s financial status.
    • Reviews final financial statements.
    • Oversees execution of the following activities by Student Success Coordinators:
      • Establish and maintain direct connection and network with school principals and local tribal communities, include direct communication with tribal governance, community members and related tribal agencies, on behalf of the school district.
      • Educate students and parents about post-secondary options.
      • Depending on school location: Meet with 7/8th grade or 9th-12th grade students; and with juniors & seniors, individually & in groups re: process & individual college choices.
      • Work closely and collaboratively with academic counselors, special education staff and tribal education departments to ensure students are on track to graduate and are meeting graduation requirements.
      • Develop and facilitate Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings with Tribal Liaisons.
      • Provide supplemental college and career readiness activities/workshops as requested.
      • Serve as an advocate for students and families.
      • Educate 11th and 12th grade students and parents about post-secondary options; including colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing.
      • Assist in facilitating and understanding of district mission/goals, Indian Policies and Procedures and related educational data, programs and services for Native American students.
      • Attend district, school and tribal meetings as needed.
      • Helping students and families set short and long term goals (next step plan).
      • Works closely and collaboratively with academic counselors, special education staff and tribal education departments to ensure students are on track to graduate and are meeting graduation requirements.
      • Meet with all college admissions representatives who visit our campus and facilitate meetings between college representatives and BPS students.
    • Ensure Native American student participation in college and career readiness events and activities provided by the district.
    • Provides supplemental college and career readiness activities/workshops as requested.
    • Maintain and submit monthly accountability logs to supervisor and Native American Education Department.
    • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.

     

    Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Communicate accurate and up to date information to students in a way that enhances student learning.
    • Manage time appropriately.
    • Cooperate with administration, parents, and co-workers.
    • Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Complete duties (hall, bus, etc.) as assigned.
    • Maintain student involvement in appropriate tasks.
    • Use and apply appropriate conflict resolution skills.
    • Demonstrate public relations skills.
    • Use appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal.
    • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
    • Be responsible for students on field trips.
    • Act as a good role model within the context of the school.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Students assigned for assistance.

     

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in education and/or state teaching certification required.
    2. Five years of teaching or youth development experience, including a minimum of two years in program/curriculum development.
    3. Two+ years’ experience managing or supervising others.
    4. Experience in anti-bias and cultural relevant programming and activity development.
    5. Proven balance of classroom teaching experience and time in afterschool, early learning, camp or other youth development/out of school time programs preferred.
    6. Knowledge and experience developing curriculum and planning lessons.
    7. Highly organized and able to work independently.
    8. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    9. Demonstrated flexibility and creativity.
    10. Required to pass a background check.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

     

    Safety and Health:

    • Child Abuse/Substance Abuse Workshop
    • Bloodborne Pathogens Standard Training

     

     

    Equipment/Material Handled:

    Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.

     

    Work Environment:

    Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Occasional after hour work may be required. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.                                                                        

     

    Terms of Employment:

    Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

Funded by a multi-year grant.
